About Us: Mission Statement

We will provide a means for families to:

• distinguish summer from the rest of the year
• come together with other families, and
• experience the simple pleasures of the season

The Other Kind of Summer, Inc. recognizes that as parents we have a mixture of emotions when summer arrives. While we look forward to leisure and spontaneity, we also have the challenge of keeping our children engaged and stimulated. And although we love to see our children enjoying camps and classes, we lament our own lack of personal time, especially when there is little flexibility in our home schedules or employment. The Other Kind of Summer is built around these needs, those of children and adults alike. We defend children's playtime and free-time, and champion the oft-forgotten need of grown-ups, whether they work out of the house or not, to enjoy summer as children do.
